Mind In Shadows
She watches the moonlight dance across the water
Having no recollection of why she is here
In this place that reminds her of pain
Next to the knife she found covered in blood
Who is this dead man who now sleeps
In the blood-crusted mud at her side
And how did she come to be covered in blood
Blood which is not hers
Except for some minor cuts
Her memory mocks her as she tries to remember
Piece together the events of last night
What had happened to her in this seemingly peaceful place
Why did she wake with the knife in her hand
Her past is covered with dark shadows
She cannot even recall her own name
The purse next to her has a picture ID
But the name on the card means nothing to her
She found a suicide note it must have been hers
So how did she come to be here alive
If she had truly planned to be dead
And why is this man beside her dead
The man she seems to know deep within her soul
She watches the blood from her cuts that has slowed
Trailing down her arm like a macabre little stream
Who is she, what is she, what did she do
But her memory just remains silent...
A tear rolls down her bruised cheek
Shed for him or for her she doesn't have a clue
Did she kill this man for some reason
Did he attack her
Was he her friend...or her enemy
She examines the bruises on her wrist
Gently touches the tender areas of her throat
What happened to her
Who had harmed her and why had this man died
She leans over the pond to once more see her reflection
Maybe she leans too far
As the moon reflects on the now rippling water...
